I'm thinking he really shouldn't be expected to unless his wife is really sick. If he does it any other time that is a bonus for his wife. The reason being is that men don't have that maternal instinct like women do so it just isn't in our nature. Nobody likes to change diapers full of poop. It's a rather foul experience that simply must be done. Being that no one wants to do it, I think it's only fair to split it 50/50. If your wife does more than 50%, then that's a bonus to you.



If you try to argue science as your reason that you cannot do it, your wife will know you are lying. Lies will destroy the trust and affection in your marriage. Lie so blatantly to your wife at your own peril.



You are right about one thing, though. Baby knows who takes cares of him/her. If you're not involved, then you will not have that bond with your baby. Don't go with the mistaken assumption that baby won't remember, so it doesn't matter. One experience builds on top of the other, and so if you miss a lot of time, you have a lot of catching up to do later on. You see, it takes two to make the tot....so, I'd say half the time would be about the right amount of sharing changing the diaper...besides, take it from a mommy, you change the diaper when it needs to be changed...not just because you want to, um, feel the joy....How often should a father be expected to change baby diapers?
True, it is a great bonding experience, but not one that is reserved strictly for the mother. It is a bonding experience for the father as well and it is actually a three way bonding experience.



One, the dad can bond with the baby more by changing the baby's diapers more often,



Two, the mom can bond more with the baby on top of feeding, bathing and doing everything else for the baby ( the father can help by doing more often.)



Three, the mom and dad will bond more to each other because of the love being given by the dad by changing the baby's diaper. Mom will be more appreciative of dad and in turn more loving so you can understand where the bonding will come in. Just make sure you have enough diapers on hand because after all that bonding you may need them for the next child.



So dad. . . . . . . stop trying to find excuses to get out of changing your childs diaper.It's good for you to do it, good for the baby, good for the momk and even good for you, because you bond more with your child and your wife, what could be wrong with that if you really love the both of them?
