What lotions/creams/bath stuff do I need for my baby?

Okay I'm going out soon to buy them. I know they sell packs but I figured whats in them may not all be necessary. So I'm going to list what I think is, and I'd love to hear what else I need, what I don't, and brands you recommend or not!!!

bath:

baby head to toe

baby shampoo (only if they have hair, or can I use the first one)

washcloths (how many?)

towels (how many?)

baby lotion for after?

changing:

baby rash cream (how often/brand?)

feeding:

burp cloths (how many?)

cream for my nipples (brand?)

Anything else in the categories? I ask how many so that I can consider buying that much. Keep in mind I don't have a washer and dryer in my apartment, if that makes a difference. Thanks! What lotions/creams/bath stuff do I need for my baby?
If you havent had your baby shower yet I would wait and see what you still need after everyone pampers you! We had two showers, my husband is in the military so we had one with our friends and family at home and one with our friends here. The baby still has five more weeks until his due date but this is what I have or have learned from my mommy friends :)

After the showers we ended up with 28 wash clothes 10 towels. Most of this is because the washcloths come four or more in a pack and the towles often come two in a pack with four washclothes. So we have a huge excess of washcloths but remember that you'll easily go through one or two a day. You wash your face twice a day so you'll probably wash babies just as often, and after a nasty diaper he might require a little more care than wipes can offer.

I bought Johnson %26amp; Johnsons baby wash which works from head to toe, hair or not. I also have their baby lotion for sensitive skin. Ive learned through friends that Beaudroux (sp?) Butt Paste, and not Desitin, is great for sore tushies. If youre planning on breastfeeding or pumping at all Lanisol (sp?) Nipple Cream will help with the sore/cracked nipples.

We only have four burp cloths but were give a couple packs of cloth diapers and we're told that they make excellent everything cloths. Theyre super absorbent and big enough that they'll fit over your shoulder and catch anything that baby spits up.

Also be sure that you have 12 or so either sleep sacks, gowns or footie pjs. The baby will live in them the first few months of life and will also go through them quickly. Have a few in newborn size but stock up on 0-3 and 3-6 months since he wont stay in newborn size for very long.

Oh and blankets, I dont think you can have enough of these. Buy as many as you can! The baby will be swaddled in them yes but they will also work for anything. Cant find a burp cloth? Use a blanket. Out of clean towels? Use a blanket. Have some eye boogies and the washcloths are all dirty? Use a blanket.

Also keep in mind that baby clothes and items cant/shouldnt be washed with regular detergent. You can buy Dreft, which I hear is hard on the clothes but great at getting stains out, or opt for something like All Clear which has no fragrance, no dye etc and is great for sensitive skin. Thats what we did. Not only can we wash babies clothes in it without having to worry but its strong enough to wash our clothes as well. We did buy the Dreft stain spray though, Ive been told its the only thing that will completely get out spit up.

I would think that since you'll have to go somewhere to do laundry a surplus of everything will be good. That way you wont have to run to the laundry mat every few days. Like I said, 28 washcloths is a bit out of control but Im set for at least 2 weeks without having to do laundry. Id rather spend the time doing one or two big loads than have to rush out multiple times during the week just to keep up and have enough of what I need.

I found this list online and hopefully it will be helpful to you as well. Just remember to buy a few more of everything since you dont have laundry facilites readily available.

Good luck!

You really won't need both baby head to toe and shampoo. I like the lavender scented baby washes (calms baby and smells good too) and you can use this on their hair, or on their head if they are bald. Don't use the stuff for adults, because if it gets in their eyes, it tends to burn.

Washcloths, I would start with one multi pack, maybe 4.

Towels, 3 (since you don't have a washer/dryer, keep in mind that newborns don't get really dirty. You could hang the washcloths and towels to dry, and wash once a week (unless baby pees when wrapped in the towel). The ones with the hoods are best, since little babies feel the cold more.

Lotion, definately. Even though they are so so soft, they tend to get dry skin too. Plus it makes giving them massages easier. Again, lavender scented.

Baby rash cream- I use Palmer's Bottom Butter. It's kind of greasy, goes on good, stays on good, and isn't white like Desitin. My baby only had diaper rash once, and for that, I think nothing is better than Triple Paste. It's expensive, but worth it, and unless baby has really sensitive skin, he probably won't get too many rashes.

Burp cloths, I don't use these. I just put the bib over my shoulder.

Cream for nipples - I only used the stuff the hospital gave me, but didn't really need it much. I think it was called Lansinoe or something like that. I don't remember. It was kind of like vaseline, but safe for baby to injest (in small amounts)

Powder - I don't use it. It may cause lung problems, and may increase cancer risk in girls. Corn starch can cause yeast to grow, and then you'll need an antifungal cream to get rid of the rash (if used on diaper area).

For the shampoo/baby wash I use Gerber Grins %26amp; Giggles. It smells good, and is really gentle.

I would NOT recommend getting baby oil. It can not only make the tub slippery (even when using a baby bath tub) and babies are slippery enough as it is, but the next time you wash them, the oil will get in the water and they'll be slipping all over. I think it's dangerous. (Just my opinion)What lotions/creams/bath stuff do I need for my baby?
i never use burp cloths, i dont think you really need them, also i bought lanolin for my nipples and have never needed to use it. in the hospital they give you free samples, wait and see if you'll need it first or else its just a waste of money.

i use johnsons bedtime bath, and bedtime bath lotion (smells yummy!) and bath wash thats for hair and body. we bought a huge baby shampoo too but never really use it, i like the other scents of the body+hair ones better :)

towels about 4? and washcloths...10?

start off with a small amount of things, when i was expecting i bought a TON of everything, and hardly use all of it. you can always go buy more if you need it.
