How to change a babies last to mine?

I live in Columbus,Ohio.Im a male who got with my girlfriend 2 years ago,who at the time had a 6 month old baby girl.Ive been with her closely now for 2 years, and she has called me daddy every since she could talk.I really love this little girl, and pretty much she is my daughter just not biological.

The real father is a loser drug head who wants nothing to do with her,and has not been heard from in over a year and a half. There is no child support, seeing how i said i would take this responsibility on 100%.

We have talked about this and said if anything would ever happen between us the baby would still be mine.Ive questioned this a little up till this point.Yesterday we had to take her to the hospital and when they asked the babys name(which is differant than mine)then asked if i was the dad.I proudly said yes,but felt stupid when the nurse looked at me weird. So right then i decided that i was 100% sure that i wanted to change her last name to mine. How do i do this? How to change a babies last to mine?
First talk to the mother about this- if she says yes, go for it. You have to go through courts to do this, but since you are paying for the care of this little girl, I believe they will grant you the right to make your last name hers. How to change a babies last to mine?
I believe that you would need to adopt her... my friends dad did that when she was younger. How to change a babies last to mine?
If you're married, it's a step-parent adoption.....I'm not sure how that works if you're not married, but a lawyer can tell you.How to change a babies last to mine?
You can go through the county registry and file papers to have her name legally changed with the mother. It's about $500.00 here in Ca....You can look online and find out for your stateHow to change a babies last to mine?
her mom and you will most likly have to go to court, and her %26quot;natural%26quot; father may have to give up his rights (check with an atty regarding this) if he does you may be able to adopt her and change her last name to yoursHow to change a babies last to mine?
In most states it requires the formality of adoption. After my dad and step-mom married, my dad adopted my step-moms sons and changed their last name to ours.

Sorry I don't have any specific resources for Ohio, but that might point you in the right direction. How to change a babies last to mine?
State to state laws can differ, but you should be able to call a lawyer (without there being a charge) and ask legally how to do that. In Michigan, whether or not the biological father pays, you still have to have his permission to change the child's last name. He will either have to put it in writing and have it notarized or have an actual court appearance. Someone at Friend of the Court may also be able to answer your questions. The downside, is if you actually adopt her legally, you will be the way to pay child support. Either way, best of luck! How to change a babies last to mine?
I would assume that you would have to get the sperm donor to sign over all rights (it doesn't sound like he'd have a problem with that) and then you could go about adopting her. I think the name change would fall into play when the adoption was finalized. That's awesome that you want to be a part of this baby's life. But please remember, if you do adopt her, that is forever, there is no going back. How to change a babies last to mine?
Okay, I don't know much about the name process, but what I do know is that the father has to give up his parental rights for you to adopt. You're gonna want to check out the procedure for the name change at the courthouse, it may be hard (if possible at all) to change it because you are not married to the mother. Technically, you may be adopting from the father, but the mother is not giving up her child. Check it out either at the courthouse, or online at their website.

You could always just get married and adopt her that way so that there would be no questions. How to change a babies last to mine?
if the mother agrees then you both need to go down to the court house. fill for adoption. since the father is absent and you have been taking care of her you have a good chance. i was adopted by my %26quot;father%26quot;. my sperm donor was a loser and the court reconized my relationship with him. they asked me who my dad was and i said %26quot;him%26quot; not the sperm donor:) you will have a long road ahead of you and lots of money to pay. i think the father has to sign her over or if he is a no show the court will throw out the case and let you adopt her. my dad never showed so thats how it went for me. good luck and its worth it in the end:)How to change a babies last to mine?
my boyfriend and i are going threw the same thing we have already consulted a lawyer and you have to file for a name change at the courthouse in your town in new jeresy it $200 and you go before a judge and just say that you want to change her name to yours for what ever reason the mom can name the child's name to what ever its just that after a year of birth you have to pay to change it.How to change a babies last to mine?
if the mom says yes you have to go down to the courthouse adopt the kid but u have to have the dads parental signature n order to do this.well hope this helps.you would better off be adopting her because if anything happens between u and the babies mom you would be able to see the baby no matter what because she will be urs by law.How to change a babies last to mine?
ADOPT THE BABYHow to change a babies last to mine?
ok, i have 2 answers to this. i am actually in the middle of a similar situation. my son is 3 and i have been with my fiance for over 2 years...since my son was 9 months old. so he's daddy to my son. my son used to call him mommy josh since he didn't know the word daddy, now he says daddy josh or just josh cuz thats what he hears most. my son has no idea who his biological father is or even exists, who has seen him briefly like 4 or 5 times in the past 3 years. and so far its been over a year since we've seen him. i'm actually in the middle of getting his rights terminated since he is willingto do it. so either you have to do a stepparent adoption and have his rights terminated throught the adoption, but you have to be married to do that. i'm getting married in may and we are willing to get married in a courthouse just to do this and still have original ceremony. or if you guys don't want to get married, your g/f can petition the biological father for a name change. which is what i had to do also, since my son's birth name was with the biological fathers last name and i wanted him to have my last name...and i'll have to change it again after my fiance adopts my son. but anyways, she can petition him and if he doesn't oppose it or doesn't respond, she can change her daughters name to whatever she wants. i got my son's name changed by default...my ex never responded so i filed a motion for default have a quick hearing and it was changed. but the petition will have her present name and the name you want it changed to. if it goes through, she will have your last name but legally the biological father will still have parental rights unless he gives them up. i live in florda and it was about $300 for the name change. and she would have to get a new social security card. hope this helps. How to change a babies last to mine?
im not sure how you would go about doing it, but as long as your girlfriend wants the little girl to have your last name too then go for it. im sure the dad would have to drop all his rights, unless he doesnt have any and his name is not on the birth certificate then you would probably have to adopt her, but it seems like you want that anyway. an then again you might want to wait and see if the two of yall get married before yall chance the babys name unless you know for sure that if the two of yall didnt make it you would still want to see the baby aand if thats the case then i would say adopt the baby and have her name changed. good luck!!!
